Swiss Turning Machine Shop

Ripley Machine & Tool is a Swiss Turning machine shop based in Ripley, New York. For decades, we have specialized in various machining processes, including CNC turning. In an effort to become more efficient, increase throughput, and decrease lead times, we’ve decided to specialize in Swiss turning and have invested in CNC Swiss Machines. We initially invested in these machines to help increase our capacity on a single job in our CNC Turning department. The process exceeded our expectations, we were able to reduce cycle time from our lathe while eliminating the need for a secondary operation.

We also increased “up time” on the job by 100% by utilizing automatic bar feeding and lights out machining. This enabled us to cut our lead time to our customer in half. We have quickly expanded our CNC Swiss Turning department and have added significant capacity. One of the things that really sets our CNC Swiss Turning Machine Shop apart is our lead times. We typically quote a 4 week lead time but strive to beat that. For repeat orders, we are often meeting our customers’ demands in 2 weeks or less. There’s not a better testament to our short lead times than our 24 hour or less quote time.  If you are looking for round machined components in quantities over 1000 pieces, you need to contact us today!

We take pride in our flexibility and our ability to communicate with our customers to understand their needs and manufacture the best possible products for them with a quick turnaround time. We will work closely with you to ensure that you get exactly what you are looking for, as soon as possible. To get started with your project, click the “Get a Quote” button below and fill out the brief form. We look forward to working with you and appreciate your support of custom CNC turned parts machined in the U.S.A.

What is Swiss Turning?

Swiss turning is a specific type of CNC turning that uses Swiss machinery. CNC turning is a frequently used machining process used to manufacture various parts through subtraction machining. The process involves rotating materials, often a piece of metal, on a lathe while a stationary tool is used to remove material and form the desired shape. Swiss turning is often used for creating smaller, precision parts, due to the additional stability it provides. Ripley Machine & Tool can machine a variety of materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, brass, steel alloy, HDPE, PEEK, ULTEM, and much more to create various parts for different industries.

Benefits of Swiss Turning

Depending on the specific application, Swiss turning machines can offer advantages over standard CNC turning machines. Often, Swiss turning is best for precision manufacturing of smaller parts. A major difference between conventional CNC turning and Swiss turning is that Swiss machines use a fixed headstock and will push the material through a bushing to the cutting tool, which provides additional stability for creating smaller precision parts, as well as longer parts. The more compact machine also allows for significantly shorter cycle times than a standard CNC lathe, allowing for faster and more efficient production. While conventional CNC turning machines will have only three or four axes, Swiss machines can have up to 13 axes, allowing for a much more efficient machining process.
