Aluminum CNC Turning Parts Manufacturer in Ripley, NY

What is Aluminum CNC Turning?

Ripley Machine is a machine shop in Ripley, New York that specializes in CNC turning. We use many different materials in our machining process, including aluminum. CNC turning is one of the most frequently used machining processes, and aluminum is one of the most frequently used materials, making aluminum CNC turning a very common machining process used for many applications across many different industries.

CNC turning is a machining process that uses subtraction machining to manufacture components from many different materials, including aluminum. The process of aluminum CNC turning involves rotating a piece of aluminum on a spindle while using a stationary tool to shape it into the desired part by removing material from it. CNC turning is an extremely precise and efficient process, due to using sophisticated CAD-CAM software, allowing for quick production times without sacrificing quality, accuracy, or safety. This also allows for repeatability, making mass production of aluminum components a fairly simple and common process.

Aluminum Properties

Aluminum is frequently used in manufacturing due to its combination of being both a strong material while being incredibly lightweight. It is simultaneously malleable and durable, enabling it to be shaped easily in a variety of parts while being able to withstand wear and tear. Aluminum is also a good conductor of heat and electricity, corrosion resistant, nontoxic, and inexpensive to produce. All of these properties make aluminum a great choice of material for a range of applications, and why it is commonly used in the aerospace, medical, electronics, trucking and general automotive industries.

While aluminum is generally considered a high quality material for manufacturing, there are a few disadvantages to using it. It is not as hard and durable as steel, meaning it is not ideal for manufacturing parts that will be load bearing. It’s relatively low melting point means it also cannot withstand extremely high temperatures. All in all, however, the benefits and advantages of using aluminum outweigh these disadvantages, and more often than not will make a good choice for most applications.
